٢What is the Calamity?

Mal qaariah

٣Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is!

Wa maa adraaka mal qaari'ah

٤A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths

Yauma ya koonun naasu kal farashil mabthooth

٥And the mountains will become as carded wool.

Wa ta koonul jibalu kal 'ihnil manfoosh

٦Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works),

Fa-amma man thaqulat mawa zeenuh

٧He will live a pleasant life.

Fahuwa fee 'ishatir raadiyah

٨But as for him whose scales are light,

Wa amma man khaffat mawa zeenuh

٩A bereft and Hungry One will be his mother,

Fa-ummuhu haawiyah

١٠Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is! -

Wa maa adraaka maa hiyah
